The first and most important rule is to go into the situation with confidence. Just like a job interview, you will never get hired without being confident. Now their is a fine line of confidence and arrogance or cockiness, but that is something you have to develop on your own.

The second is practice practice practice. Networking is one thing that guys think they should just be good at right away. They would be sorely mistaken. Networking with women is just like any sport, the people best at it practice the most.

The third and most important thing is to lose your pride. You are going to fail, the point is to try and learn something from each time you fail and each time you suceed.

What to look for

One thing that a lot of men do wrong in their networking is looking for women that may be interested in them. Most men make the mistake of looking for the hottest girl in the place and hitting on them. This is a bad idea, because you will be competing against everyone else in the bar. A better idea is to look at your surroundings, figure out which girls are available and which women might be interested in you.
